As part of National Family Week we organised a walk especially for families to find out more about Heartwood and to discover why woodlands are so great. We spent most of our time in Langley Wood where everyone (young and old!) took part in a scavenger hunt. We found something a mouse might like to eat, something older than 100 years, something a bird might use to make a nest (to name a few!) as well as identifying all the different types of trees that make up this fantastic ancient woodland.
The best part for me was seeing so many children clearly loving nature and appreciating this fantastic resource right on their doorstep. Go to our special nature detectives website www.naturedetectives.org.uk to find out about activities that you can do each time you visit.
And, don’t forget to let us know what you find – we would love to hear your stories and comments about Heartwood. Just log in and leave us a message.

Lots of families enjoying Langley Wood
