Ok, so you may think I’m being a little optimistic but the days are getting longer, the birds are looking for places to nest and the bluebells in Langley Wood at Heartwood Forest are just starting to pop their heads out of the ground. This magnificent show of colour may be one of the most spectacular sites to see in an ancient woodland and we are lucky enough to have this natural wonder at Heartwood.
These beautiful flowers are protected in the UK so when they do flower around the month of April, please resist the urge to pick them and try to keep to the paths where you can. If you want to record the first signs of spring, visit our phenology website – www.naturescalendar.org.uk and let us know what you’ve seen.

Don’t forget the wood anemones that come before.
