Heartwood’s third tree planting season is coming to a close and we would like to thank every single volunteer who has helped us to reach our ambitious target of 100,000 trees. Not only that we have reached the half way point; 300,000 trees have now been planted since the beginning of the project in 2009.
People often ask how we manage to plant so many trees all with volunteers so here’s the breakdown of who’s been involved this winter:
Weekly work parties with local volunteers and corporate groups saw 503 individuals plant an incredible 26,900 trees.
Six weeks of school tree planting has contributed to 20,761 trees being planted this winter. 2,977 school children have been involved as well as 444 adults. This doesn’t include the week of seed scattering where 387 children and 81 adults scattered tree seeds across 2.5 hectares last October.
Community tree planting events contributed to 19,250 trees being planted by 1,350 local people.
Corporate team building events outside the work parties planted 25,985 trees including 16,000 by Disney Store in just one day. These events involved 695 people.
