Come to the Oxfam Herts Hike on Saturday 29 September
The message of the Oxfam Herts Hike is “come and enjoy a walk in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, enjoy yourself and think of others by supporting an Oxfam project that helps people in need”. Walkers make personal donations and/or collect sponsorship from friends and acquaintances.
This year’s event is on Saturday, 29 September 2012 and all are warmly invited to join in as walkers, or helpers, or both! There is a selection of possible routes; for those coming from a distance, the 3 or 8 mile routes would be most practical although there are longer routes for those who can start early.
All routes are circular and begin from Heartwood Forest, in Sandridge Village.
The Oxfam St Albans group maintains a website where you can see more details; there are online forms for both walkers and helpers to enroll their names (this is a great help for planning purposes).
In past years, fundraising has been for a variety of topics worldwide, ranging from Bolivia to Thailand, Haiti, Africa and the River Basin. This year the focus is on Oxfam’s work with olive farmers in the Palestine occupied territories. Olive farmers will be given training in new techniques and access to better equipment so their olive oil and other olive products will be of the best quality. There is an emphasis on working with the cooperatives that cater for women farmers.
Excellent – I’m going to try my best to be here – the presence of women farmers in Palestine should definitely be encouraged and it’s really good to know all the way over in the UK, people want to help.
