The Woodland Trust has become aware of companies offering photoshoots at Heartwood Forest. It should be noted that any professional photography is not permitted without written consent – this includes commissioned shoots of people or animals and covers all parts of all Woodland Trust sites. Please be aware that Heartwood Forest is private land and that no professional photography is authorised without permission from the landowner.

No permits for photoshoots at Heartwood Forest have been issued to any photographers this year (2019).

Photographers and clients should also be aware that any professional photographers carrying out photoshoots without authorisation on Woodland Trust land are not insured, as photographing without permission on private land invalidates their insurance policies.

Individuals taking photographs for private use are of course permitted to do so.

All visitors are asked to stick to designated paths in the ancient woodland and all dogs must be kept on a lead in the signed areas – specifically in the car park and the field above it and in Langley Wood. This is particularly important at this time of year, as the bluebells start to appear in the ancient woodland.

Thank you.

Every year, on the day after Boxing Day – 27th December – volunteers run a Santa Hunt in Wick Wood, St Albans.

It costs 50p per child, with money raised going to the Woodland Trust.

It runs from 10am-12 noon and involves a hunt around the woodland, finding tokens which the children then exchange for a modest chocolate treat.

PLEASE NOTE – This is NOT at Heartwood Forest. It takes place at Wick Wood, St Albans, on Marshal’s Drive – postcode AL1 4RE. Booking is not necessary – just turn up! All ages welcome!

A message from the Woodland Trust:

‘A tree has blown down across the bridleway between the Scout hut and the first entrance to Langley Wood. Please do not try to scramble through the tree, take an alternative route. The Woodland Trust are aware of the situation and have organised for the tree to be cleared tomorrow (Thursday 20th)’.

Thank you.

A decision has been made to cancel the Dog Show, Hay Bale Run and Doggy Dash at the Heartwood Festival on Saturday (7th July 2018). This is due to the hot weather that we are currently experiencing.

Should you choose to bring your dog with you, shelter and water will be provided for dogs in order to help with the health and welfare of your animals.

All other activities will still be going ahead.
