Last week we were planting in one of the fields. It was a beautiful day, but there was a heavy frost, which meant that the ground was quite firm. This made digging challenging at first,20150123 work party-6but one spade later, the sun won through and things defrosted!

Autumn is definitely in the air and here at Heartwood we are gearing up for another ambitious tree planting season. With 70,000 trees to plant, all with volunteers we are looking for people from all over the county to join us and help create Heartwood Forest.

There are so many ways that you can get involved:

Community tree planting events – we are planning three weekend community planting events this year – 17th November, 15th December and 15th March. Get these dates in your diary and bring along your friends, family and neighbours. Check out the flyer below.

School tree planting weeks – we are providing weeks of opportunities for school children to get involved. Do you know a school that would benefit from this?

Weekly work parties – each week local volunteers get together to plant trees and drink tea! Come along, meet some new friends and feel good about helping our environment.

Corporate team building days – are you allowed days off work to volunteer? Are you responsible for organising this year’s team building day? If so tree planting is the perfect way to give back and get to know your colleagues in a very different environment.

Get in touch for more details about any of these events by emailing heartwood@woodlandtrust.org.uk.
